About the Author

Background. I was born and raised in the Oxford / Henley area before moving to Derby with my family where I began my working career in a boiler making factory.  Then, in 1963, I exchanged overalls for a suit and joined the staff of a large bank in London’s West End. There, as a cashier, I was privileged to meet many interesting and famous people: peers of the realm, theatrical, film, radio and television personalities, one “pop” star, plus a cabinet minister – and my wife to be.

Sadly, and because bank salaries represented a formidable barrier to a couple wanting to get married, we left the bright lights and headed for Yorkshire. There, and anxious to improve financial matters, I entered the retail motor trade as a salesman with the local Renault distributor. So, began a fast-moving career that took me through sales, sales management and general management, before joining the ranks of a major Japanese car importer as an after sales manager. Then, deciding it was time to branch out, I established my own company that provided business management consultancy services to the accident repair industry.

Hobbies and Leisure. Sport has always been important to me, from amateur boxing in Derby and running for the bank’s cross-country team. This was followed by thirty years of rowing after we relocated to Lincolnshire. During that time, I rowed competitively in eights and fours, then owning my own sculling boat and competing eight times in the annual 31-mile Boston to Lincoln marathon, rowed on the river Witham. Now, a little less active, I enjoy walking, reading, watching sport, tackling DIY jobs and, of course, writing. Traveling abroad is of great interest and, closer to home, I enjoy visiting Cornwall and following up on their tin mining heritage. Add to that spending precious time with our sons and grandchildren, who all live locally.

Writing – the future:  As an aspiring author, I’d like to attract the attention of literary agents, publishers and television producers. Okay, that’ the dream taken care of. But, the output will continue as I’ve no shortage of ideas. As mentioned on my Home Page, I enjoy creating stories that find ordinary people becoming caught up in extraordinary situations. So, while waiting to be discovered, I’m sticking with Amazon, the notebook and word processor, trusting that you’ll enjoy my works, and look out for more.
